Client Information

Meals
Menus for the meals are planned and prepared by Valley Dining at The Valley Hospital. Each client can receive one hot meal and one cold meal; both delivered at approximately noon. Cold meals are prepared at The Valley Hospital and hot food is transported to the kitchen of Christ Episcopal Church in Ridgewood.  Our dedicated group of volunteers help portion, package and deliver the meals to our  many clients.

Our daily delivery includes a hot meal, which consists of an entrée, starch and vegetable and a cold meal that includes a sandwich and fresh fruit or sweet. Our menus are varied daily. If a client does not like a meal they can request Herbed Grilled Chicken Breast or Tilapia instead of a specific hot entree. Turkey on whole wheat with lettuce and tomato with a choice of regular or low-fat mayonnaise may be substituted for any cold entrée.

We generally expect that our clients' inability to provide meals for themselves will require them to use our service for two meals a day, five days a week. However, we have the ability to be flexible and provide service on fewer than five days a week, if circumstances require.

Eligibility
We serve those who are unable to shop for food or prepare meals for themselves due to age or disability.  Clients must live in one of the seven area towns we serve qualify for this service.

Delivery
Meals are delivered by our caring and dedicated volunteers Monday through Friday between 11:30am and 12:30pm. The client is responsible for the proper storage of the delivered meals. Click here for our Food Handling Tip Sheet. Any uneaten food should be refrigerated immediately. Please leave an insulated food container at your door in which volunteers can leave your meals if you won't be home.  If there is no cooler, the volunteer will bring the meal back to our office refrigerator and it will be redelivered the following day. Our volunteers are not permitted to give medications or to provide hands-on assistance.

The cost of meals is affordable, $4.50 for cold and $4.90 for hot each day. . There is a two-week minimum for our service. Billing is done monthly, with bills either delivered by the volunteer, or mailed to  a designated caregiver. Payment should be made to:
